Of the several series that I write for OU Torah, my current favorite is The God Papers. This is a series that I started about two years ago because, for some inexplicable reason, we spend precious little time actually talking about God. The God Papers began with a series of articles based on content from the Rambam’s work Moreh Nevuchim (The Guide for the Perplexed). Subjects discussed in The God Papers include:
- Ways in which we do and do not anthropomorphize God;
- Whether or not God actually has attributes;
- Secret Names of God;
- Torah and science;
- The nature of evil;
- Why there is suffering;
- and much more (prophecy, angels, God’s “chariot,” etc.)!
The God Papers has now finished its review of material from Moreh Nevuchim and has started a series of articles from Derech Hashem, “The Way of God” by Rav Moshe Chaim Luzzatto, AKA the Ramchal. The first article, titled simply “God,” introduces us to our Creator and tells us what we can know about Him.
“God” is a great place for new readers to join in the conversation (though, of course, you can always start at the beginning!). Follow The God Papers on OU Torah and by using the OU Torah app for iOS.
