The Jewish community as a whole benefits from investments made in Jewish education. Therefore, it behooves every Jewish community to make an extended effort to foster and support formal and informal Jewish education.
The Samuel Scheck Hillel Community Day School/The Ben Lipson Hillel Community High School has found the key to inspiring that involvement.
The school intends to unlock the North Miami-Dade Jewish Education Support Circle by “opening its borders” and sharing its human, intellectual, physical and financial resources with the area’s Jewish community. The resulting stronger community would in turn increase its support to Jewish education, allowing the virtuous cycle of Jewish Education Support Circle to enter a new and higher level.
The “Hillel Without Borders” program involves initiatives aimed at building a stronger relationship between the day school and the local Jewish community, developing a deeper commitment to Judaism and the Jewish People by the non-Hillel community. The school plans to generate student, faculty, and parent participation in the area’s synagogues, JCC, Jewish Federation, AIPAC, Jewish Home of the Aged and other local, national and international organizations, by volunteering its time and resources into existing programs and by developing new joint programs. The school will also provide non-Hillel children and their parents with dynamic afterschool and adult education opportunities.
Through the sharing of its resources and opening its arms to the community at large, Hillel will enable broader and deeper connections with philanthropic Jewish organizations and high net worth families who share its vision –motivating them to support Hillel’s fundraising campaigns.
The school anticipates increased participation in our fundraising campaigns and tuition assistance program by non-Hillel community members – bringing to full circle the investments made through our Community Support & Participation and After School and Adult Education initiatives. The expected goal is that 15% of fundraising campaign proceeds will be provided by non-Hillel community members within three years and 30% by five years.
Once fully implemented, Hillel Without Borders will be a self-sustaining program that will produce a stronger and more vibrant local Jewish community characterized by the participation and support of Hillel community members in local, national and international Jewish organizations. It will promote the value of Jewish education, a larger tuition assistance program for middle and low-income Hillel students and families, and a lower tuition rate for full-paying Hillel students and families.
