Due to the polarization and schism between the religious and secular sectors of the Israeli population, a serious rift has evolved whereby the religious establishment and its leaders have "lost touch" with various sectors of Israeli society.

To establish a postgraduate school of advanced Jewish studies which will train religious and spiritual leaders, who are committed to the ideals of Zionism and are dedicated to communal involvement and service.

To meet the challenge, Eretz Hemdah was established in 5748 (1987) in Jerusalem under the leadership and spiritual guidance of HaRav HaGaon Shaul Israeli, former senior member of the Rabbinical Supreme Court.

Rabbis Yosef Carmel and Moshe Ehrenreich, both graduates and experienced teachers of Hesder Yeshivot, serve as the Roshei Yeshiva (Deans).

Seven years of intensive study and examinations in Talmud, Jewish Law, Bible and Jewish Philosophy leading towards certification as Rabbinic Judges (Dayanim) and municipal rabbis.
Supplementary courses in practical Rabbinics, Homiletics, General Law, Pastoral Psychology, etc., are an integral part of our program.
Students must devote 4-5 hours per week to communal work.
