Shavuot and Shabbat Parshat Naso
June 1-3, '06, 6-7 Sivan 5766
Remember EIRUV TAVSHILIN on Thursday, Erev Yom Tov.
See last week's TT for text and details
This Shabbat is the 236th day (of 354); the 34th Shabbat (of 50) of 5766
BACHODESH HASHLISHI...BAYOM HAZEH BA'U MIDBAR SINAI: (Sh'mot 19:1)
We read/learn the FIRST perek of Avot (Chu"L: no Avot, no Naso, yes 2nd day YT)
Torah Tidbits are produced in Israel and Parshat HaShavua, et al follows the calendar for Eretz Yisrael.
Because of the second day of Shavuot in Chutz LaAretz (which we don't have in Israel), we read Parshat Naso this Shabbat when Jews abroad are reading the special Torah portion for the extra day of Yom Tov.
This will continue for a total of six weeks, until we bring Parshat HaShavua in sync with Chukat-Balak for Chutz LaAretz and Balak alone in Israel.
