Word of the Month

Parashat Noach

A weekly feature of Torah Tidbits to help clarify practical and conceptual aspects of the Jewish Calendar, thereby better fulfilling the mitzva of HaChodesh HaZeh Lachem...

First, two corrections to the MONTH-MOLAD chart in last week's pull-out.
SIVAN, the words of the Molad statement say it occurs after NINE in the evening. But it is really after SEVEN. (I carelssly rendered 19 hours as 9:00pm rather than 7:00pm. Change TEISHA BA'EREV to SHEVA BA'EREV.

ELUL.The clock time for the Molad is mistakenly given as 4:23am. It should be 10:01am (sum). (I copied the time from the wrong column on the computer screen.) Also, one of the dots in Cheshvan's Rambam notation was in the wrong place. Okay.

Kiddush L'vana for this month. Molad of Cheshvan was early Shabbat morning. Three days later brings us to Tuesday morning. Therefore, Tuesday night was the first opportunity for KL according to Minhag Yerushalayim (min. 72 hours after the announced Molad). 7 day people and Motza"Sh people have their first and best op this Motza'ei Shabbat.
