Parashat Vayeishev
Upper-left is a Davka graphic of Yosef's dreams. Below that is a sheep, as in the sheep that the brothers were tending when Yaakov sent Yosef on that fateful day to see how they were doing. Below the sheep is a pair of shoes, representing that which the brothers received in exchange for Yosef. These shoes came back to hauntus many centuries later, with the ASARA HARUGEI MALCHUT, the 10 martyrs. The snake and the scorpion were Yosef's roommates in the pit into which his brothers threw him. The goat was slaughtered by the brothers and its blood was smeared on Yosef's coat. Rashi says that goat's blood is similar to human blood. The crown at the top represents Par'o, king of Egypt, represented by the pyramids in the lower left of the PP.There is a prisoner which represents Yosef at various times of his Egyptian period. In the upper right is the wine cup in the charge of the SAR HAMASHKIM, and in the lower-right corner is one of the pies of the SAR HA'OFIM, the royal baker. That leaves us with the birthday cake in the middle,no doubt part of the celebrations of the birthday of Par'o (the execution day of the Baker and the ascension day of the Wine Steward.
