Sukkot & Simchat Torah Hoshanot are commemorative of the Hakafot around the Mizbei'ach in the Beit HaMikdash. It can be suggested that our Hoshanot combine a Korban- like practice with prayer, as expressed in the pasuk in Hallel (T'hilim 116:17): L'CHA EZBACH ZEVACH TODA U'V'SHEIM HASHEM EKRA - to You I will sacrifice a Thanksgiving Offering, and in G-d's name I will call. This pasuk's G'matriya is 1176, as is the G'matriya of HOSHA'NA L'MA'ANCHA ELOKEINU HOSHANA. Each day's HOSHANA is essentially a petition of 22 phrases (in alphabetical order) asking G-d to please save... After each Hakafa, we return to our places and, still holding the Arba'a Minim, say K'HOSHA'TA, in which we refer to various situations in which both we, the people of Israel, as well as G-d, so to speak, werein exile and were redeemed. The concept of G-d redeeming Himself in addition to us is based on His "voluntarily" going into Galut with us. We ask Him to redeem Himself and us, so that He will be recognized universally.
