Parashat Shmot
Upper-right is a Davka Judaica Graphic of basketed baby Moshe with a watchful Miriam keeping an eye on her little brother. The head of lettuce is MAROR, reminding us of the bitter slavery suffered by our ancestors, as is its purpose at the Seder table. Parshat Shmot is the source. The slavery took the form of work with bricks (see picture) and field work (see picture). The pyramids and the ball & chain represent our being prisoners on Egypt. At the left is the Staff, the MATEH, introduced to us in Sh'mot, but around for a long time. In the lower-right is a depiction of a land flowing with milk and honey. It is significant to note that our entry and inheritance into the Land of Israel is spelled out even as we were still in Egypt. And in the lower-left is another Davka graphic, a scene of the Burning Bush, complete with sheep. This was the first of many prophecies of our greatest prophet. Top-middle: if they will not listen to the first OT (sign, also letter), then they will listen to the last one. [The ParshaPix Index][The Shmot Homepage] |
