Torah Tidbits in the PALM of your hand
TT in the Palm of your hand - Technology serving Torah If you have a Palm™ handheld device and would like to read Torah Tidbits on it, you can download a Palm-version of TT from the Torah Tidbits webpage, www.ou.org/torah/tt. Once the file (.prc or .pdb) is on your computer, you can hotsync it into your Palm. It can then be read with any of the many document readers available. TealDoc is recommended, because the file and its bookmarks are prepared with TealDoc. Rich Reader reads TT Palm version well, too, as does CSpotRun (but without bookmarks). If you need help with the procedures of downloading and/or hotsyncing, contact Phil at the Israel Center (500-3333 ext. 207) or email to tt@ou.org. If you would like to receive the TT-Palm version each week by email, rather than your going through the website, send me an email message and I'll add you to our growing Palm-list. One of these days, B"N, we'll AvantGo TT. Howie Hirsch of Penticon Technologies Ltd. (that's where Hebrew support and lots of other goodies come from) told me the story of the name and logo of his company. The logo came first. It is the kabbalistic HAMSA. A brilliant choice for combining PALM and Judaism. After the logo, came the name of the company. PENT means five, and the company's ICON is a five-fingered hand, PENT-ICON, Penticon. Way to go, Howie. Penticon's latest product is OMER100, the polished, first official version of the beta-version that was around last year. Tap on the OMER icon and the first screen you get is L'SHEIM YICHUD... HIN'NI MUCHAN... - the introductory passage for counting the Omer. (The setup allows you to skip this screen and go straight to the bracha.) The next screen has the date and the count of the day, preceded by the bracha and followed by HARACHAMAN. The count changes at 7:00pm so that it is ready for proper counting after stars-out. The next four screens have the passages that some people say after counting, including the correct kabbalistic pair of S'FIROT, e.g. YESOD SHEBIG'VURA. There is a chart which keeps your history of counting, and a set of alarms that play the HIN'NI MUCHAN tune, to remind you to count. A terrific program. Get it FREE at www.penticon.com
