Torah Tidbits in the PALM of your hand - Technology serving Torah

You can download the Palm version of Torah Tidbits from the Torah Tidbits website - www.ou.org/torah/tt (or from www.pilotyid.com) - or you can email me and ask to be put on the email list to receive an attached file of the document. If you need help with the procedures of downloading and/or hotsyncing, contact Phil at the Israel Center (500-3333 ext. 207) or email to tt@ou.org.

If you surf over to www.pilotyid.com, you will find a lot of Jewish material for your Palm, both in Hebrew and in English. You can also join the Pilotyid announcement list (over 2000 Jewish Palm users already have) and receive email notices of updates of the site. In the latest such update...

There is a growing list of kosher restaurants from many places around the world. It is possible to install on your Palm a list of kosher restaurants in the country you are visiting. Very useful for your next vacation abroad. The lists of kosher restaurants are available at www.shamash.org for regular, non-Palm use.

There are databases for events in Jewish History (something like B"H YOM YOM?) and Jewish personalities. Pilotyid always tells you what reader programs are necessary for the various databases and documents it offers.

Pilotyid recommends Penticon's OMER program, as I do. Details were found in this column in the past two issues.

In general, for those less familiar with Palming, if you download a program from the web and then load it into your Palm device (by hotsyncing), you can subsequently delete it from your Palm and it will remain on your computer. Since your computer has much more memory space than your Palm device, it is good to keep in mind that you can periodically empty your Palm a bit and not have to worry about having to go through the whole downloading procedure if you want the particular program or document again. In other words, you can build up a fairly large collection of Palm programs and documents on your computer, and then put them into the Palm when you want, and when its memory allows.
