Parashat Bamidbar A weekly feature of Torah Tidbits to help clarify practical and conceptual aspects of the Jewish Calendar, thereby better fulfilling the mitzva of HaChodesh HaZeh Lachem... We bench Rosh Chodesh this Shabbat: Rosh Chodesh SIVAN will be on Sunday. Sivan always has only one day of Rosh Chodesh because Iyar always has 29 days. We've got an interesting announcement of the Molad this Shabbat. The Molad WAS YESTERDAY, Friday morning, 21 minutes (even, no chalakim) after 10. (That's 11:00am Israel Summer Time on FRI, June 2nd. The actual - astronomical - Molad is 3:15pm on Friday.) Every so often, the Molad will have occurred earlier on the Shabbat of Rosh Chodesh benching. But how often is the announcement ETMOL, yesterday? The last three times were 4, 15, and 16 years ago. The next times will be 4, 5, and 12 years from now. Not often.
