PPP sort of (last week's)Last week's PPP sort ofs were scattered around the issue. Part of the puzzle was to find them. There were 5 of them at the bottoms of pages 6,7,8, and 10. Upstate New York region is the last word! This was a giveaway for people who know NCSY in the States. Upstate NY region is called HAR SINAI, which is (are) the last word(s) in B'chukotai (and the book of Vayikra). Zev the fencer is in trouble Zev is a wolf, a wild (and bad) animal. A fencer's weapon is a sword. We are promised that both will be banished from the Land (if we are faithful to G-d and keep the Mitzvot). Therefore, Zev the fencer is in (double) trouble. ZEVULUN over Thou shalt not covet Zevulun is one of the Tribes, a SHEVET. Thou shalt not covet is the 10th commandment. As in "under the SHEVET (staff of the shepherd) the 10th one" to pass shall be MAASER B'HEIMA. Zevulun happens to be Yaakov's son #10, but that wasn't intentional. This donated to the end of "the 3" and the middle of "the 18". "The 3" is BIRKAT HAMAZON, and "the 18" is the Shmoneh Esrei, the Amida. The Haftara of B'chukotai gave the pasuk Baruch HaGever Asher Yivtach... to the end of the benching, and R'fa'einu HaShem V'neirafei to the middle of the Amida. And finally, T=U2*(4-int(U/30)) After the TT was printed, I thought of some better ways to portray the same idea, but I like this one anyway. U stands for US and T stands for THEM. If U=5, then T=25 X (4 - the integer value of 1/6, which is zero) = 25x4 = 100. As in the promise that 5 will chase away 100 enemies. If U=100, then T = 10,000 x (4 - int(100/30)) which is 10,000 x (4-3) = 10,000. As in 100 will chase away 10,000. In retrospect, instead of = it should have been < ("less than"). MM from Brooklyn, a veteran "class A" PPP solver, submitted correct solutions for Har Sinai region and the Maaser B'heima. He also had an imaginative, but incorrect, attempt for Zev. I think Zvi submitted a partial too. Certainly last week, but maybe this week too. This week's PPP sort ofs are also scattered around. We'll need a new name for them, but in the meantime...
