Parshat VaYeishev
Explanations of this week's ParshaPix - Upper-left is the Davka graphic of Yosef's dreams. The crown can either be for Par'o at the end of the sedra, or the bother's angry retort to Yosef - Are you going to rule over us?! The grapes over the royal wine cup are from the Sar HaMashkim's dream; the pie in the lower-right is from the Baker's dream. The sheep is what the brothers were busy with when Yaakov sent Yosef to find out how they were doing. The snake and scorpion represent the contents of the waterless pit into which Yosef was thrown. FYI, there is a deep pit in the Dotan area, near Jenin, which is known as Yosef's pit. There is obviously no way to know what pit is what, but it's in the right area. I did basic training at the IDF base in Dotan and the pasuk from this week's sedra naming the place is calligraphied on a large sign in the parade grounds of the base. The goat is for the blood of the goat that the brothers used to smear on Yosef's KUTONET PASIM. The birthday cake is for Par'o. The shoes represent the sale of Yosef. Prisoner is Yosef.
