Last Week's PPP (Devarim)
TT376PPP - D'varim To the British chaps and other non-Americans who complain about the abundance of Americanisms in the PPPs, especially baseball, as above... If you can't identify the famous left-handed Yankee of the past, then think of seven small fellows. Hi ho, hi ho... This time, as occasionally in the past, all parts of the PPP connect to one pasuk. In this case, it is the first pasuk of D'varim, which tells us that "These are the things which Moshe spoke to all of Israel, on the east bank of the Jordan, in the Wilderness, BA'ARAVA (that's an Arava in the lower-right corner), MOL-SUF(above the Arava is a mole and some reeds - in Hebrew, SUF), BEIN PAR'AN (the bull is on the box, PAR-ON), U'VEIN TOFEL (the drum, tof, fell), V'LAVAN (Whitey Ford, from the American clue; Snow White from the British and other non-American clue), V'CHATZEIROT (thought this one would be tougher to solve - three feet isa yard; so the feet represent yards or CHATZEIROT), V'DI-ZAHAV (Israel's ambassador to the United Nations is Dore Gold, D. Gold, D. Zahav). First solver to check in was Zvi Roth with a partial solution. Yechiel Greenblum (with help) came through with a complete solution, using PAR-RUN as a variant to PAR-ON, which renders the block the par is on, unnecessary. ElishaL had a perfect solution. ES had a partial, and saw the flags as representing the border betweenEretz Yisrael and Chutz LaAretz. Rehovot Ks had a perfect solution, adding BEIN as in male bull. But they spelled Dore wrong (as did YG) so their solution is invalid. Just kidding. Just remembering my "favorite" question to get from a student as I handed out test papers - "Does spelling count?" I used to get that questionfor math tests too, believe it or not. It's only Sunday morning, so we'll see what the next day or so has in store for us. And here's the new crop: DM had a decent partial, failed to connect all pictures, and therefore had some interesting suggestions for the feet and the flags.
