Last Week's PPP (T'zaveh)

This was a TT354PPP that appeared in TT355

What we have here is a chart of the denominations and portaits of the active currency of the U.S. That's Washington on the $1 bill, Jefferson on the 2, Lincoln on the 5, Hamilton on the 10 (my clipart collection did not have Hamilton, so his picture was scanned from a $10 bill), Jackson on the 20, Grant on the 50, and Franklin   on the $100 bill (couldn't find a face shot, so I used the sitting silhouette). Just for your additional information, all higher denomination bills have been discontinued. Now for the PPP solution. One of the many slang terms for money is bread. And here you have the portraits on the money or the faces on the bread, asin LECHEM HAPANIM. The chart is a table, so the Lechem HaPanim is in/on a table, as in the Shulchan.

Next we come to the TT355PPP, which appeared where it should - in TT355.

There are basically two different things represented in it. Let's start in the upper-left with the three symbols - taking them right to left - the inverted commas, a.k.a. quotation marks, a.k.a. GERSHAYIM. Then there is an upsidedown, mirror-image, lowercase h, or the mirror-image but rightside up Cyrillic alphabet letter that is pronounced like the ch of chair. Actually, it is neither. It is a PAZEIR, a Torah cantillation mark (TRUP), as is the GERSHAYIM. And as is the third symbol that looks like a diamond from a deck of cards, namely, a R'VI'I. As is well known, Moshe Rabinu's name is missing from Parshat T'tzaveh. What makes that fact noticeable, is the absence of "And G-d spoke to Moshe, saying...", or words to that effect. Instead, the word V'ATA - And you - is used three times in the opening portion of the sedra. These three TRUP marks arethe ones over each of the V'ATAs.

The remaining eight elements in the PPP are a set - they are each one syllable of the names of the garments of the Kohen Gadol. We have A as in EIFOD, the tooth or SHEN as in CHOSHEN, the eel of M'IL, the orange juice of MITZ as in MITZNEFET. Now we get a bit more stretchy. The shuttle is a vehicla of NASA, as in MICH-NASA-YIM.The tennis net at the bottom is for the AVNET, the belt or sash. The aquatic bird is a rail of genus Fulica, known as a COOT, as in KUTONET. Top-right is the sound a horse makes - NEIGH - as in NEIZER KODESH, another name for the TZITZ. I don't really expect people to get all of them frontally. But starting with the reasonableassumption that the garments of the Kohen Gadol should be part of the PPP for T'tzaveh, and then discovering some of the easier syllables, maybe some more of the pictures could be solved. We shall see.
This brings us to the unmarked PPP for Purim, making it a PPPP.

What we have here is not only a PPPP, but an MMMM as well. That's Megila Morsels Mishlo'ach Manot. At the top is a piece of PI. Specifically, it is PI to 127 places, as in the 127 places of Achashveirosh's kingdom. Following the piece of PI, are 5 Internet cookies. That's what they are called. Many websites that one visits, leave a record of the visit on your computer which can then be accessed on subsequent visits to the sites. These data accumulate in a file on your computer and are known as cookies. And to round out the Mishlo'ach Manot, we've got MITZ (mitts) at the bottom. This was added in case pie and cookies, with the same bracha, don't qualify as two separate foods.

And then, straight from Arutz-7's Torah Tidbits Audio (Thursdays 10:08-11:00pm), there are the Radio Riddles
[A] Davy Crockett & Smokey the Bear.

[B] Part of it took its name from the whole thing.

One of the riddles was for Parshat HaShavua; the other for the special Shabbat. Answers after the PPP Report.
The TT355PPP Report...

Can't tell yet how many sol'n attempts there will be, but here are the first two from Motza'ei Shabbat. Yehuda from Zefat took all parts to be the garments of the Kohen Gadol. He hit the A, tooth, eel, juice. Used the net for Kutonet (reasonable) and mistook the Shuttle for a MIG (which I was looking for, but couldn't find),as in MIGBA'AT (the turban of the regular kohen), and the neigh of the horse for the AVNEIT. Don't ask about the Michnasayim. Overall, a nice job. benjietc had a nice try for the T'ruma one - ADNEI KESEF, men of the money... They also got the A, tooth, eel, juice, and AV-NET, but his other tries went awry. If there aremore, I'll try to put them on another page. For now, this is it.

Answers to the Radio Riddles

[A] Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier, is associated with the Alamo. The famous slogan that resulted from the defeat at the Alamo is "REMEMBER the Alamo". Remember. As in ZACHOR. Smokey the Bear was always warning us of the dangers of forest fires. His most famous line was: "REMEMBER, only you can prevent forestfires." Again, remember. As in Parshat ZACHOR.

[B] The Choshen or the Chosen Mishpat of the Kohen Gadol consisted of 12 mounted stones, in four rows or columns of three stones each. Arba Turim became the name of the forerunner of the Shulchan Aruch. One of the four sections of the Shulchan Aruch (and the Tur Shulchan Aruch) is Choshen Mishpat. A part (one of the 4 Turim)took its name from the whole thing (the Choshen).
