Last Week's PPP (Shlach)

Why was Mr. Whipple so worried?

I couldn't resist this PPP once it popped into my head. I'm glad to see more than one correct solver. I'm also glad to see some nice try but wrong solutions. As a fringe benefit of this particular picture, there were several cases (I'm sure) of people of my generation explaining Mr. Whipple, Charmin, obnoxious but effectiveadvertising, and more, to members of the next generation.

One of the TT readers sent an email clipping from the New York Times, which reported that the actor, now 82 years old, was enticed out of retirement to do a whole slew of new ads for a new Charmin product.

Charmin's problem (and Mr. Whipple's) was that it was so soft, or in Hebrew, KO RACH. That's it. Rehovot K got it, but wants a roll of Charmin instead of a CD. I'll see what I can do. Zvi Roth was the other correct solver. In this case, the wrong solutions were more clever and intricate. Honorable mention to Elisha Loewenstern,ES, and MMBklyn for their hard work.

Back to the Shlach radio riddles - The Purim question in the Parsha was Moshe's charge to the Meraglim, to find out if the cities were walled or open. This is especially important for Purim, since the time in question was close to Yehoshua's.

1,2,4,4,5,7,7,8,8,11,13,13,and 613 were all numbers (there are probably more) related to TZITZIT. 1 T'cheilet thread (of the 8 per corner) or 2 or 4, depending upon who's opinion you follow (Rambam, Raivad, or Rabbeinu Tam). 4 corners, also 4 strings per corner. 7 is the minimum number of CHULYOT and 13 is the maximum.7 is also the number of turns in the first space between the knots. 5 is the number of double knots. 8 strings and 8 turns in the second section. 11 turns in the third section. 13 turns in the fourth section. 613 is the number of mitzvot that the mitzva of Tzitzit reminds us of.

Here's a Korach radio riddle that I got from my Hebrew colleague at Arutz-7, Reb Zev Frank. He is the best riddler I've every come across. Take one letter away from a bracha and get something that relates to Parshat Korach and this week's perek.

I'll tell you the answer next week to give you a crack at it without hepl and without the temptaion of looking at the printed answer.

Here's one for Chukat which I have to polish a bit. Half as many further inside and further outside. As is, it is too obscure. Hints can go in two directions: Who and what. I don't want to give hints yet. Nice price for solver.
