Parashat Chukat
A good lively PP from last year. Lots of discussion starters, and some nice puzzles from past PPPs. Upper left (appropriate for Commie) is a red cow, as in Para Aduma. For those who are looking at the picture in black & white, the cow is branded with a hammer and sickle, the symbol of Communism, a.k.a. RED. The faucet with the spider web is the lack of water once again experienced by Bnei Yisrael in the sedra. The snake on a stick stands for the N'CHASH N'CHOSHET made by Moshe to help stop the attack of poisonous snakes that started biting and killing people. There is a rock giving water. Obvious, but a good discussion starter with your children and guests around the Shabbat table, on this important event in Moshe's life.. Under the faucet and snake-stick is a book with HEI-shmichik on one page and a tank (hard to make out) on the facing page. This represents SEFER MILCHAMOT HASHEM (the book of the battles of G-d), as referred to in the sedra. The Do Not Enter refers to Edom and Emori, both of whom barred our way in the Midbar. The musical bear stands for the Song of the Be'er (well). 3+2 is a Cheshbon, a calculation. A fire results from it, as in V'EISH YATZA MICHESHBON. Pun from the past.
