 Parshat
Acharei-K'doshim

Modified and added to from last year's. Busy sedras. Upper-left
is the Kohen Gadol flanked by the two identical goats upon which he draws lots on Yom
Kippur. That's it for Acharei. The rest is K'doshim. Lot's of things to challenge the
family and guests, and to use as a springboard for Parsha review. Top-middle - Heart-
Love, as in thy neighbor, which is known as a Klal Gadol of the Torah. Candlesticks for
Shabbat which is mentioned twice - once with reverence of parents, the other with Mikdash.
Lifesaver under goats is for the prohibition against not saving your fellow - life, limb,
property - if you have the possibility. Wheat andgrapes are for the gifts to the poor from
the fields and vineyard, as well as the ban on mixing the two. The thief is for the
various mitzvot related to stealing. The arm under the candlesticks (Col. Mustard in the
Billards Room) has a tatoo of an anchor on it. Hard to see, but it's there. Forbidden.
Under arm is a classicimpossible result of violating the prohibition of cross-breeding
animals. The tilted scales in the center refer to all the mitzvot related to perversion of
justice. The scale has a 1 something weight on it, but its dial shows less than 1.
Forbidden to possess one or the other - whichever is the inaccurate one. below thescale is
a razor - forbidden to use it on certain parts of the head and face. (Prohibition applies
to males only.) And, across the bottom, a personal favorite of mine - starting on the left
is a small tree bearing a small fruit. The first three trees represent the first three
years of the trees when their fruit is ORLAHand forbidden. The fourth tree is marked with
an asterisk, indicating that the fourth year's fruit is sacred, and can only be eaten in
Jerusalem, in a state of ritual purity. Or it can be redeemed, etc. The fifth year's
fruits can be eaten "regular", as depicted by the largest tree being served on a
plate with knife and fork.
