T327PPP D'varim

ParshaPixPuzzle (D'varim) - REPORT

Haven't done this type of PPP in a while. Many pictures, but only three puzzles.

[1] HOE, WHEEL, MOSHE, BEAR, PEN writing the letter S, POINTING FINGER. HOE + WHEEL = HO'IL, MOSHE BEI'EIR ET or ES (the pen is for S'faradit; S is for Ashkenazit) and the pointing finger as in V'ZOT HATORAH is for HATORAH HAZOT, from D'varim 1:5.

[2] A Polish coin is a ZLOTI, the crow's sound is a CAW, so you get something like ZULATI KALEV, as in D'varim 1:36.

[3] Take this one starting on the right: GHOST, ABACUS, NOSE, HOUSE, and the San Francisco GIANTS (baseball) emblem on the ghost. Modern Hebrew fro ghosts are REFA'IM. YEICHASH-VU (are considered, in the pasuk; are calculated, in this PPP) AF (Hebrew for nose) HEIM (Yiddish for home) KA'ANAKIM (like Giants).

That's it. Let's see the results. Remember that Tish'a b'Av is interrupting the free flow of solutions.

Based on first responses, we've got some solid solutions. We will cate gorize the solutions as perfect, near perfect, and partial.

Perfect: DYANEC, Ramot Lerners, Steinhart Gang (who even caught the es-et factor);

Near-perfect: Bklyn MM, Havdala Harati, Albeck, Strauss & Stavish, Zvi Roth, Ramot B Gellmen, Ofra Shelnitzes, the Kollel K'nockers (they got es-et too);

Partial plus: RehovotKs, PCSI gang, Benjie n Esti (who pointed out that the football Giants would have been better to use than SF because the Refa'im lived to the east), a non- English-speaking Ofran, Chaim E, Falk Family, DM, Zvi.

Did I leave anyone out? Possibly. It was that Tish'a b'Av thing. Sorry.

Speaking of which... Kudos to the Kollel K'nockers for their solution to the previous PPP, which apparently went awry.

Side point: The choice of a pointing index finger was determined by available clip art. I could not find a pointing pinky. Does anyone know why people use pinkies to point
to the Torah?

PPP for Va'etchanan was inadvertantly left out of the hard copy of TT328. It will appear next issue, IY"H. It will be on the website www.ou.org/torah/tt and one text element of it is in the email version of TT, as follows:

Sunday Rosh Chodesh?

For the rest of the PPP, see the website or next week's hard copy.
