[7] Amram remarries Yocheved. King Aggripa I dedicates new gate in Jerusalem wall.
Observed as holiday in olden times.
[8] On this day in 70c.e. the Romans battered down the walls of the upper city of
Jerusalem and all resistance came to an end. The conquest of Judea and Jerusalem was
complete. 17 Jews were burned at the stake in Silesia in 1453. Sh'chita was banned in
Switzerland in 1893 (the ban is still in effect).
[9] Birthday of Dan b. Yaakov. The Ramban arrived in Jerusalem, 1267. He renewed the
Jewish community in Yerushalayim which enjoyed uninterrupted existence until 1948. 19
years later, it was reestablished - 700 years after the Ramban's arrival. Jews of Cologne
set fire to their homes and perished in the flames, to avaoid forced baptism, 1349. Jacob
Bar simon, the first known Jewish settler in North America, arrived in New Amsterdam in
1654. Hungarian Jewish deportees massacred in Russia 1941. 7000 Jews massacred in
Marijampole Lithuania, 1941. Wearing of the Yellow Star became obligatory for all Jews in
the Reich, 1941.
[10] No'ach sent the raven out of the ark. Yahrzeit of Rabbi
Yitzchak Yaakov Reines, 1915. Supreme Court in Israel inaugurated 1948.
[11] Rabbi Yosef Caro completed his commentary on the Tur, 1542. Jews of Poland granted
limited autonomy by Sigismund II. The liquidation of the ghettos in Minsk and Lida was
begun, 1943. Operation Magic Carpet which brought 45,000 Yeminite Jews to Israel was
concluded, 1950.
[12] One of the earliest recorded Church censorships of Hebrew writings was ordered by
King James I of Aragon, 1263.
