 Parshat Eikev

Explanations of this week's ParshaPix -
Some elements of this PP are clearer than others, but with this column to guide you, you
should be able to have long discussions with family and guests about this week's Parshat
HaShavua.
Upper right is a mountain with a penny on it, representing one of the descriptions of
Eretz Yisrael as a "land from whose hills one mines copper". Top center is a
stone with Fe on it (that's the chemical symbol for iron) representing " A land whose
rocks are iron..."
Next we have 6 of the 7 Species depicted wheat, barley, grapes, no fig, pomegranate
(represented by the hand grenade called RIMON in Hebrew), the calendar with the
31st is a DATE, and there's an olive in the martini.
Right side below center is a rain cloud. Several references to the kind of climate Israel
has and the reliance on rainfall for economic prosperity.
Below that cloud is one with a padlock, representing what happens if we do not keep the
mitzvot.
The Luchot, mentioned in the sedra.
Mezuza, from the second passage of the SHMA.
Lower left is the Golden Calf, hinted at in the beginning of D'varim, but fully presented
by Moshe in Eikev.
