Word of the Month

Word of the month for Parshat Chukat

A weekly feature of Torah Tidbits to help clarify practical
and conceptual aspects of the Jewish Calendar, thereby
better fulfilling the mitzva of HaChodesh HaZeh Lachem....

Anyone who has not said Kiddush L'vana yet this month
should do so at the earliest opportunity. Since Motza'ei
Shabbat is the 11th of the month, it is not preferable to wait for then to say K.L. On the other hand, since there will be four more nights after Motza'ei Shabbat, those who follow the Minhag of saying K.L. only on Motza'ei Shabbat can wait for then. During the summer, especially in Eretz Yisrael, it is highly unlikely to be clouded out of K.L.

The deadline for K.L. is half way from one Molad to the next. 14 d 18h 22m after Wed. 5:23pm is 11:45am on Thursday, July 9th. Last opportunity for K.L. this month is Wednesday night, July 8th.
