 G'matriya for Parshat Balak
based on L'ORA SHEL TORAH
by R. Yaakov Auerbach z"l
I've been so involved with the Treasures in the Sand
searches, that it wasn't until just now that I realized that most of the G'matriya gems of
Rabbi Auerbach z"l are the same, in that the match pasuk or part thereof with pasuk
or part thereof. L'ORA SHEL TORAH contains other types of "finds" (such as what
follows), but I must acknowledge Rabbi Auerbach z"l as my inspiration for my own very
enjoyable searchs. From what I understand from his daughter and son-in-law, Rabbi Auerbach
did his searching
and finding without the aid of computer, databases, and
G'matriya programs. I stand in awe at his accomplishments.
The whole Balak-Bil'am story is contained in a single
PARSHA (here referring not to the weekly portions, but to
the Torah's traditional divisions). Chazal treat this section as unique and state that
Moshe received a special prophecy to be able to write this portion. There are 4893
letters in the Balak-Bil'am story. That is 7 x 699. 699 is
the G'matriya of BALAK BEN TZIPOR MELECH MO'AV = 2+30+100 (132) + 2+50 (52) + 90+80+6+200
(376) + 40+30+20 (90) + 40+6+1+2 (49) = 699.
