A
Tu B'Shvat Prayer
By
Yaffa Ganz
Sometimes I think I've been endowed with an overabundance of
feelings. Things often seem to affect me more deeply than they
do other people. I used to think this heightened sensitivity was
a blessing, a gift to be treasured, but lately I'm beginning to
have my doubts. It often seems to bring more suffering than
satisfaction.

Trivia Question |
|
Q. Two
major differences between songs. |
|
Last Week's Answer |
Q.
(based
on riddle heard in shiur by Rabbi Yisrael Reisman)
Permitted on Shabbat because something is forbidden
on Shabbat; forbidden on Yom Tov because something
is permitted on Yom Tov.
What is it and what's the connection to Bo?
A. Inviting a non-Jew to a Shabbat meal is permitted
because cooking on Shabbat is forbidden.
Inviting a non-Jew to a meal on Yom Tov is forbidden
because cooking is permitted (and one might cook
extra specifically for the non-Jew, which is not
allowed)
Permission to cook on Yom Tov comes from Parshat Bo
(Shemot 12:16) |

Meeting
Jason
By R. Rosenfeld
I thought I understood life in a wheelchair.
Over a decade ago, my mother had been in a
terrible accident that had left her wheelchair
bound for nearly a year. Getting her around,
without an ambulette, was extremely difficult
and seldom done. So I thought I had some insight
into the difficulties of the handicapped. Then I
met Jason.

One who is more aware
of the workings of the evil inclination
will be less likely to succumb to it,
not only in that he is thereby better
able to combat it, but also in that his
pride will revolt against his being
taken in by what he can recognize as an
obvious maneuver to take him in.
