October Is NA’IM

The OU and Yachad, the National Jewish Council for Disabilities Announce October as North American Inclusion Month

The Orthodox Union and its National Jewish Council for Disabilities have designated October as North American Inclusion Month (NA’IM).

There are 54 million United States citizens with disabilities; approximately one in five Americans. It is imperative that the Jewish community creates an environment in which every Jew is encouraged to participate in all aspects of Jewish life; social, educational, and religious. Yachad/NJCD, the pioneers of inclusion within the Jewish community, has been tireless in its efforts to build awareness and increase the disabled’s participation within the greater Jewish community.

Through a wide range of social, educational, vocational and summer programs, serving both those with and without disabilities, and by creating supportive and open environments in which all participate together, Yachad/NJCD embodies the spirit and success of inclusion. NA’IM, is the OU and Yachad’s latest effort to ensure the inclusion of those with disabilities within the Jewish community. Offering a slew of programming for your synagogue, the OU hopes that NA’IM will help sensitize and educate the Jewish community as to what inclusion is, why it’s important, how you can implement it in your community and the benefits that accrue to everyone in doing so. To find out more, or to participate, please contact Jason Lieberman at liebermanj@ou.org or 212-613-8266.

Integration and comprehensive inclusion is a challenging and exciting process. Join us for the journey.
