Reactions to Obama’s AIPAC Speech; Cynical and Not

Posted at 11:36 AM on 06/05/08
Coming the day after he clinched the Democratic presidential nomination, Barack Obama's speech to the AIPAC conference yesterday is sparking lots
of punditry.

The New York Sun rounds up the reporting on it.

In typical form, Dana Milbank offers the most cynical sketch while former Bush speechwriter Noam Neusner offers a more analytically
based dose of skepticism

Beyond the news reporting, and the outrage expressed by the Palestinians over Obama's statement, it was hard to find an opinion essay that takes Obama's words at face value - although TPM does via Hillary's "hechsher" of Obama at AIPAC.

As Senator Obama clarifies his “meaning” about Jerusalem being the capital of Israel and should be undivided, I wish to impress on him that any land becoming “Palestinian” means all Jews living there are to be kicked out. Also as Arab and Jewish neighborhoods dot interspersed on Jerusalem’s map it is dangerous to simply divide Jerusalem between Jewish and Arab neighborhoods. It would mean todays Sderot in Jerusalem, and worse.
