For news, views, and a perspective you might otherwise miss. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACTION ALERT: A bill (H.Res.185) addressing the issue of Jewish refugees from Muslim countries will be marked up in early February in the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The legislation, co-sponsored by Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), states in part that "any resolutions relating to the issue of Middle East refugees, and which include a reference to the required resolution of the Palestinian refugee issue, must also include a similarly explicit reference to the resolution of the issue of Jewish, Christian, and other refugees from Arab countries." A list of members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee can be found here. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From the Campaign Trail JTA writes that after splitting victories in the opening rounds of the presidential race in Iowa and New Hampshire, Democratic front-runners Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have intensified outreach efforts to Jewish voters in advance of primaries in key Jewish states on Jan. 29 and Feb. 5. The New York Times reported that 9 Jewish leaders, including IPA director Nathan Diament, published an open letter, denouncing lies that have been circulating via email about Senator Barak Obama. The Jerusalem Post has noted that the Nevada state Democratic and Republican parties have faced criticism for scheduling the state's presidential caucuses on Shabbat, thereby excluding Jews from participating.
