Resolution for Synagogues Urging the Release of Jonathan Pollard

Resolved, that the Board of Directors of the _________(name of
synagogue)______________
Congregation of
___(name of city or town)________, urges President George W. Bush to commute Jonathan Pollard’s sentence to time served.  We refer to the findings of the International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists, to wit:

Jonathan Pollard’s sentence is far harsher than those meted out to many persons convicted of spying for the Soviet Union and other Soviet bloc countries even where espionage activities endangered the lives of U.S. agents and resulted in the loss of critical strategic and technical data to the Soviets.  Jonathan Pollard’s sentence is grossly inconsistent with and far harsher than the treatment received by other Americans accused or convicted of spying for friendly third parties or governments.

Jonathan Pollard has expressed his remorse for his actions and has served for nearly seventeen years.  We therefore urge the President to exercise compassion and direct the commutation of Jonathan Pollard’s sentence to time served on humanitarian grounds.

Please review with your Board members and pass this resolution.  Kindly call the IPA/OU to let us know you have done so.
