Dear Representative (name) ,

We are writing to urge you to become a co-sponsor of H.R. 3405, a bill designed to help the State of Israel gain acceptance to the United Nations Western European and Others Group (WEOG) regional bloc. Israel is the only long-standing member of the United Nations that has been denied acceptance into a regional bloc. As you may know, it is only through membership in a regional bloc that UN members become eligible to serve on key policy and decision-making committees of the UN.

Since Israel’s membership in the Asian bloc has been consistently prevented by the Arab states, membership in the WEOG group, which consists of Western-style democracies and includes countries like Canada, the United States and New Zealand and is not drawn across geographical lines, would be the common sense solution to resolve this discrimination against Israel.

The "Equality for Israel at the United Nations Act of 2000" (H.R. 3405) calls on the Administration to take concrete steps to support Israel’s admittance to WEOG. The bill directs the US Secretary of State to discuss Israel’s acceptance into WEOG with the WEOG member states. The bill also calls on the US ambassador to the UN to take all necessary steps to ensure Israel’s acceptance into WEOG.

Representative (name) , we respectfully urge you to support and co-sponsor H.R. 3405. For more information, please call the offices of Representative Steve Rothman (D-NJ) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), the original co-sponsors of the bill.

Sincerely,
