The
Passover seder affords an excellent opportunity to support the Orthodox
Union's Tefilla Card program, which has the double goal of praying daily
for the welfare of the men and women of the Israel Defense Forces and at
the same time of relieving the financial distress experienced by many of
these soldiers and their families.
Howard Rhine, OU Vice President, Chair of its Israel Task Force and the
program's founder, says that by "Inviting a Soldier to Your Seder," the
cards may be inserted into haggadahs and the prayer recited at the seder.
The Tefilla card program involves the sale of up to 100,000 credit-card
sized cards featuring the MiSheberach leChayalei Tzahal - the prayer for
the Israel Defense Forces - for use by individuals and groups. The price
of each card is one dollar. The card features a full color photograph of
Israeli soldiers at the Western Wall on one side and the prayer on the
other.
"Although tens of thousands of these cards have been purchased already,
there are so many people out there who have yet to participate in this
wonderful program and such novel ways to contribute," Mr. Rhine declared.
"I urge those who have not yet already done so to become involved, and
those who have participated to continue and to reach out to others. It is
also very important to recite the prayer at the seder, both to protect our
soldiers and in the hope that thousands of voices raised in prayer will be
received before the Heavenly Throne. The Passover seder is a wonderful
opportunity to show our support for the brave men and women who are
protecting Israel."
