OU to Dedicate Wall of Honor for Union Society Members at September 14 Ceremony at NY Headquarters

The Orthodox Union invites its most generous supporters to the dedication of its Wall of Honor at an exclusive reception at OU headquarters in New York on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at 6:30 pm. The guest speaker will be New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.

The wall will pay tribute to members of the OU’s Union Society, and will be displayed in the reception area at OU headquarters. Three levels of OU membership qualify for a place of honor on the wall: Union Society Member, for annual contributions of $5,000 or more; Chai Associate, for annual contributions of $1,800 or more; and Union Associate, for annual contributions of $1,000 or more.

“The support of Union Society members helps make possible a wide variety of OU programs to benefit the Jewish community,” declared OU President, Stephen J. Savitsky.

These programs are part of the nine major divisions of the OU:

  • Community and Synagogue Services brings relevant and inspiring programming-- such as Positive Jewish Parenting and Positive Jewish Marriage-- to communities throughout North America.

  • OU Kosher make it easier to live an observant Jewish life in an increasingly sophisticated technological age.

  • NCSY brings effective and inspiring educational programs and fun events to young people throughout North America.

  • Seymour J. Abrams OU Jerusalem World Center provides a myriad of educational and social activities for Israelis, including those who have recently made aliyah.

  • National Jewish Council for Disabilities enriches the lives of young Jews with special needs through Yachad and Our Way.

  • Institute for Public Affairs advances and protects the interests of the Jewish people in the political arena and the public square.

  • Joseph K. Miller Torah Center in Ukraine relights the spark of Jewish observance and knowledge in what was once the heartland of the Orthodox world.

  • Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus bolsters the observance of Orthodox college students, and offers Torah knowledge to all Jews on campus at 12 major universities in the United States.

  • Website, PR and Publications reaches the hearts and minds of the Jewish public with resources that inform, instruct, and inspire.

“The Wall of Honor gives us an opportunity to honor our supporters, without whom our work would not be possible,” declared Howard Tzvi Friedman, Chair of the OU Financial Resources Development Commission. “It will ensure that everyone who visits the OU has a chance to see who our supporters are and how much they mean to us.”

According to Executive Vice President Rabbi Tzvi Hersh Weinreb, “We provide many benefits for our donors, but we currently don’t have sufficient ways to recognize their contributions. The wall display will create an ongoing reminder of their generosity.”
