OU Leadership Pays Tribute to the Teichman Family, Benefactors of Youth Center, at Jerusalem Event

In the holiday atmosphere of the sukkah at the Orthodox Union’s Seymour J. Abrams OU Jerusalem World Center, on the eve of Hoshana Rabba, OU leadership from both the United States and Israel paid tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Sol and Ruth Teichman of Los Angeles, whose gift made possible the Teichman Family Youth Center at the Israel Center.

In the years in which it has existed as an integral part of the Israel Center, “this Youth Center has attracted hundreds of young people who have found ‘a home away from home,’ no less than the many adults – old-timers and newcomers – who participate in the wide range of programs and projects offered by the Israel Center,” declared OU President Stephen J. Savitsky.

Present at the event were Mr. Savitsky; Executive Vice President Rabbi Tzvi Hersh Weinreb; Israel Center President Yitzchak Fund, and more than 100 guests. Rabbi Weinreb presented Mr. Teichman, on behalf of his family, with a plaque, and two members of NESTO, the Israel Center’s English-speaking teenage organization, presented Mr. Teichman with a collage of pictures of their activities at the Youth Center.

“The impact of the Teichman Family Youth Center on the Israel Center has been enormous. I am delighted that we were able to pay tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Teichman for all they have done on behalf of the young people of Israel,” declared Rabbi Dovid Cohen, Director General of OU Israel.

Guest speaker Rabbi Michael Melchior, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister`s Office, emphasized the importance of Jewish unity and cited the differing backgrounds of the participants in the Israel Center’s youth programs to illustrate the possibilities of Israel’s variety of cultures working and living together.
