The Orthodox Union Announces Three Singles Events:
December 18, January 4, January 12

Once again this year, as it has for over a decade, the Orthodox Union Singles Connection will present exciting educational, social, and recreational events that cater to a large spectrum of ages and interests.

Upcoming events include:

  • Sunday, December 18, 2005 – The Israel Movie Festival with an Edge

  • Wednesday, January 4, 2006 – From Central Park to Sinai, How I Found My Jewish Soul

  • Thursday, January 12, 2006 – An Evening of 60’s & 70’s Music With The Guthrie Brothers

“The OU consistently provides opportunities for single men and women to meet, in a low key environment where people are made to feel comfortable,” declared Frank Buchweitz, Director of Community and Synagogue Services. “Together with the synagogues that host these events, we provide religious, social, and educational activities that appeal to a variety of people and are conducive to meeting others with similar interests.”

Details are as follows:

Sunday, December 18, 2005

The Israel Movie Festival with an Edge, which is a fresh and thought provoking look at Israeli Society through the prism of passion and identity, will be held at West Side Institutional Synagogue, 120 West 76th Street, from 7:00-9:30 p.m., for singles in their twenties and thirties.

Registration and light refreshments will be followed by two short movies, produced by the Maale School of Art in Jerusalem: Birkonim, a comically bittersweet story of a young architect’s lost love, healing and renewal; and Eicha, a story of a young girl named Eicha by her politically idealist parents, who at age eighteen decides to change her name and establish her own identity. The movies will be followed by discussions based on questions provided by the filmmakers.

Admission is $10 in advance and $12 at the door. For advance reservation, call 212-613-8300 or e-mail syng@ou.org.

Wednesday, January 4, 2006

From Central Park to Sinai, How I Found My Jewish Soul, which is for anyone searching for more spirituality and meaning, will be held at Lincoln Square Synagogue, 200 Amsterdam Avenue, from 8:00-10:00 p.m., for singles of all ages.

Refreshments and mingling will be followed by a presentation with Roy and Leah Neuberger, who will be speaking about the remarkable story found in Mr. Neuberger’s best-selling book, about a child of wealth and privilege who met his future wife at their exclusive prep school and how they returned together to their ancient Jewish heritage. A question and answer session will follow, as well as a signing of Mr. Neuberger’s books, which will be available at the event: From Central Park to Sinai; and Worldstorm: Finding Meaning and Direction Amidst Today’s World Crisis.

Admission is $5. For reservations, call 212-613-8300 or e-mail syng@ou.org.

Thursday, January 12, 2006

An Evening of 60’s & 70’s Music with The Guthrie Brothers will be held at Kehilath Jeshurun (KJ), 125 East 85th Street, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. for singles of all ages.

The program begins with a light dinner and mingling, followed by Acoustic Rock Unplugged with The Guthrie Brothers, who will perform “with startling authenticity” Simon and Garfunkel, The Everly Brothers, Van Morrison, James Taylor, The Eagles, and The Beatles.

Admission is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For advance reservation, call 212-613-8300 or e-mail syng@ou.org.
