9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

As part of its ongoing programmatic outreach to the Orthodox community, with a special focus this year on the family, Ahavath Achim Congregation, at 1571 Stratfield Road, Fairfield, in conjunction with the Orthodox Union, will present a free conference, focusing on the needs of parents with children grades K-12.

The conference, to be sponsored by Terry and Dr. Hedy Augenbraun, leaders in the congregation, will be held on Sunday, December 18, 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., as part of the OU’s highly successful Positive Jewish Parenting series.

“Once again, we are thrilled to be able to partner with the OU to provide programming that will hopefully serve to strengthen the greatest unit of Jewish life: the family,” said Rabbi Zvi Engel of Ahavath Achim. “As new parents, my wife and I welcome the blessings of parenthood, even as we grapple with the myriad challenges that accompany these blessings, and it is gratifying to know that the OU can recommend such highly qualified experts in the field to address our community”

Ahavath Achim Congregation is an Orthodox Union member synagogue. Positive Jewish Parenting is a national program of the OU’s Department of Community and Synagogue Services, for member synagogues.

“The programs address day-to-day concerns of parents. The presenters, all mental health professionals from the Orthodox community, emphasize practical suggestions that enhance parenting skills,” declared Frank Buchweitz, OU Director of Community Services and Special Projects, and coordinator of national Positive Jewish Parenting programs.

At 9:00, registration and a light breakfast will precede the three workshops, with the sessions running from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. There will be ample time for an interactive discussion, in which questions will be addressed, with specific suggestions and ideas from the presenters.

The scheduled workshops include:

  • Sibling Rivalry – Norman Blumenthal, Ph.D.

  • Setting Limits for Our Children: What Do We Allow? What Do We Forbid? – Rachel Pill, C.S.W.

  • Feeling Good From inside to Out: Helping Teens Like Themselves – Gila Zellinger, C.S.W.
