In the interest of strengthening the Jewish
family, the Orthodox community of Highland Park, New Brunswick, East
Brunswick, Edison and many of their synagogues and yeshivas, in
conjunction with the Orthodox Union, will present a conference focusing
on the needs of parents with children grades K-12. The conference is
part of the OU’s highly successful, national Positive Jewish Parenting
series.
It will be held on Saturday night, December 10, 2005 from 7:00 – 11:00
p.m. at Highland Park High School, 102 North Fifth Street. Admission is
free.
The Keynote Address will be delivered by Dr. David Pelcovitz, Ph.D. on
the timely topic, The Internet and Other Media Influences on Our Kids.
“Positive Jewish Parenting programs address day-to-day concerns of
parents. The presenters, all mental health professionals from the
Orthodox community, emphasize practical suggestions that enhance
parenting skills,” declared Frank Buchweitz, OU Director of Community
Services and Special Projects, and coordinator of national Positive
Jewish Parenting programs.
The synagogue sponsors include: Congregation Ahavas Achim, Congregation
Etz Ahaim, Congregation Ohav Emeth, Congregation Ohr Torah, Congregation
Poile Zedek, and Young Israel of East Brunswick.
The yeshiva sponsors include: Moshe Aaron Yeshiva (MAYHS) and Rabbi
Pesach Raymon Yeshiva.
The corporate sponsors include: The Eshet Chayil Foundation,
KinderKlassics (books for Jewish children), The Congregational Jewish
Nursing Center, The Family Holistic Wellness Healing Center, and The
Yaakov Nathan Jewish Diabetes Foundation.
According to Rabbi Yaakov Luban of Congregation Ohr Torah, and Executive
Rabbinic Coordinator in the OU Kashrut Department, “Positive Jewish
Parenting offers a special opportunity to learn new skills and
strategies to deal with one of the most important challenges of Jewish
life: being an effective parent. The 12 sessions cover a broad spectrum
of topics and offer something of value to everyone. Professionals of
‘Who’s Who’ caliber in the Jewish mental health field will be the
presenters. We look forward to seeing the entire Jewish community join
together for this exciting educational event.”
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for registration and refreshments. Workshops
will be presented at 7:30 p.m. and 8:40 p.m., with parents selecting a
