Urges, “Give A Pint, Get A Pint” by Donating
Blood and Receiving Ben and
Jerry’s Ice Cream in Return
Sunday, September 18, 2005
10 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Lincoln Square Synagogue-Annex
200 Amsterdam Ave., 69th Street
For those of you who love ice
cream and want an opportunity to do a mitzvah too, now is your chance at
the Orthodox Union’s youth leadership communal blood drive, “Give a
Pint, Get a Pint.” Those who donate a pint of blood will receive a gift
certificate for a pint of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.
The blood drive will take place on Sunday, September 18, 2005 from 10:00
a.m. – 3:30 p.m., at the Lincoln Square Synagogue-Annex, 200 Amsterdam
Ave. at 69th Street, in Manhattan. The event is intended primarily for
singles but the entire community is invited to donate blood as well.
“This is a perfect opportunity to bring in the New Year by helping
yourself to a mitzvah along with free ice cream, to start the new year
right by saving lives with the gift of life,” declared OU Director of
Community Services and Special Projects Frank Buchweitz. In order to
give blood, participants must be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds
or more, and must be in overall good health. Donors should bring I.D.,
know their social security number, and before donating blood should
drink plenty of fluids and eat a meal or snack.
“It takes less than half an hour to donate blood, to make a real
difference in someone’s life, and then to be rewarded with delicious ice
cream,” declared Frank Buchweitz. “Singles and non-singles should take
advantage of this special program,” he said.
