The OU and ATT’s Highly
Successful Program Returns to Chicago:
Conference Will Emphasize Positive Jewish Parenting For All Ages – Early
Childhood Through Adulthood
Associated Talmud
Torahs of Chicago
2828 West Pratt Blvd., Chicago, IL 60645
Saturday, November 13, 2004
7:00 – 11:00 PM
Building on the success of last year’s highly
successful Positive Parenting Conference, the Orthodox Union, in
conjunction with the Associated Talmud Torahs of Chicago, has planned
another outstanding practical parenting program, spanning the years from
early childhood to the so-called “sandwich generation.”
The Conference will be held at the Associated Talmud Torahs of Chicago,
2828 West Pratt Blvd, on Saturday, November 13, from 7:00-11:00 p.m.
The upcoming conference is the latest example of the OU’s increasingly
significant priority of offering programming to strengthen the Jewish
family. “Whatever can be done to enhance the Jewish family will help to
ensure the stability of our community in the years to come,” declared
Rabbi Moshe D. Krupka, OU Executive Director for Programming. “The
parent/child relationship represents the very essence of Jewish family
life.”
"Working with parents to strengthen the family and the family-child
relationship is one of our highest priorities," said Rabbi Dr. Harvey A.
Well, the Superintendent of Associated Talmud Torahs of Chicago.
Prominent professionals in the field of psychology and social work from
Chicago and New York will address the distinctive challenges that arise
with each stage of parenting, including:
- The family’s adjustment to the newborn;
- Setting healthy boundaries with preschoolers;
- Cultivating responsibility and self-esteem in
children 6 – 12;
- Navigating the complexities of parenting the
special needs child;
- Developing a deeper parent-child relationship
with teenagers;
- Yeshiva, seminary, and shidduchim (setting up
dates) – growing from the “Dance of Separation”;
- The sandwich generation parent – juggling the
multiple obligations while taking care of oneself.
Rabbi Shimon Russell, L.C.S.W., a psychotherapist
in private practice in Lakewood and Brooklyn, and who received his
rabbinical ordination from Rabbi Shneur Kotler, will deliver the
conference’s keynote address. Dr. Russell serves as an active board
member of NEFESH, the International Network of Orthodox Mental Health
Professionals.
Participants can look forward to obtaining invaluable knowledge and
skills through interactive workshops, presentations, question and answer
sessions, group sharing, and a book fair of educational materials.
“We are very pleased that the OU and Frank Buchweitz, its Director of
Special Projects, continue to bring their expertise in parenting
programs to Jewish communities around the country,” said the ATT’s Dr.
Well. “Once again, they will find a most receptive audience in Chicago.”
Admission is $10 in advance and $18 at the door. For information and
advance registration, call 773-973-2828.
