New York NCSY Runs Election-Themed Campaign for Annual Chinese Auction

Saturday, November 6
8:00 p.m.

It is well known that wearing a Bush or Kerry button is a popular way to show support for a presidential candidate. With that in mind, the New York Region of the National Conference of Synagogue Youth (NCSY) has begun a campaign to promote its 13th Annual Chinese Auction, with buttons sporting the slogan “Vote New York NCSY: Today’s Teens, Tomorrow’s Leaders.”

The auction will be held on Saturday, November 6 at 8:00 p.m. Last year over 1,200 people attended; this year the location has moved to the Manhattan Beach Jewish Center, located at 60 West End Avenue in Brooklyn, to accommodate the even larger numbers expected. Admission is $18 and includes valet parking, a hot buffet, and a free $18 coupon.

The creative force behind the campaign is Elisheva Motsenyat, Auction Coordinator. According to Elisheva, “The auction has a timely election theme, including a campaign platform that encourages everyone to ‘vote’ for New York NCSY.”

The Region is responsible for providing scholarships to teenagers who want to attend a Jewish day school; organizing shabbatons (weekend retreats); creating fun-filled summer programs in a strong Jewish environment; organizing Jewish culture clubs in public schools; and developing chapters throughout the New York area. For junior high school age youngsters, New York NCSY runs Junior NCSY, which offers similar programs to its senior high school counterpart.

The Chinese Auction handbook opens with the “New York NCSY 2004 Campaign Platform,” from the “teens of New York NCSY,” encouraging others to “stand up for all NCSY chapters and NCSYers who need your support.” The platform continues, “Please stand up for what you know in your heart is right. Stand up for yourself and stand up for Klal Yisroel (the Jewish people). Stand up for today’s teens, tomorrow’s leaders.”

A Grand Raffle will be held at the auction, with a choice of three prizes: a dream vacation to Israel, including two first-class tickets and seven nights with deluxe accommodations; $10,000 cash; or tuition for two years to the Jewish day school of your choice (up to $5,000 per year).
