Israel Center Dinner Attracts Over 600 Guests

May 18, 2004

The Seymour J. Abrams Orthodox Union Jerusalem World Center held its first annual dinner on May 18, 2004/28 Iyar 5764 and the eve of Yom Yerushalayim and attracted over 600 people, including dignitaries Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger, United States Ambassador to Israel Daniel Kurtzer, and MK's Effi Eitam, Zevulon Orlev, Tzipi Livni, and Zvi Hendel.

The dinner’s guest of honor was Marc Belzberg, founder of the One Family Fund, an organization that provides services for families of victims of terror. Because the dinner’s focus was to honor the Israel Center’s Youth Programs, Mr. Belzberg, who has helped the youth program expand from servicing 300 children to 3,000 in only three years, was a fitting honoree.

The Rabbinic Leadership Award was presented to Rabbi Aron Adler, Rosh Yeshivat B’nei Akiva Ner Tamid in Hashmonaim. Rabbi Adler lectures weekly at the OU Israel Center.

Rabbi Stewart and Susie Weiss
received the Community Service Award for their contribution to outreach, particularly in Ra’anana.

The dinner was chaired by Senior Vice President of the Israel Center Rabbi Emmanuel Quint. The Journal Chairman was Stewart Hershkowitz of the Bank of Jerusalem.
