OU/RCA Call
for National Day of Prayer
Thursday, February
20 – 18 Adar I
“Turn
away Your anger and reverse
any evil that may be directed against Your people!”
Tachanun Prayer
In
this time of heightened levels of security and threats of imminent war,
we call on all our fellow Jews to respond by uniting in prayer. Our
tradition and our history, particularly in this season of Purim,
demonstrate that Jewish prayer, resolve and rededication have the
undeniable power to positively influence events around us and throughout
the world. We must pour out our hearts in supplication to the Almighty,
asking that He protect His people—whether in Israel or in the
Diaspora—and indeed all of humanity, from any harm.
The leadership of the Orthodox Union and
the executive committee of the Rabbinical Council of America have
designated Thursday, 18 Adar I—February 20th—as a
Yom Tefillah, a Day of
Prayer on which communities should come together to recite
Tehillim (chapters from the
Book of Psalms), each according to its own custom.
May these prayers and entreaties be
favorably received in Heaven and, in their merit, may calamity be
averted so that we can look forward to the time when the world will
enjoy everlasting peace and security.
