OU to Present Three Sessions on Positive Jewish Parenting at The Edmond J. Safra Synagogue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

The Orthodox Union will present a series of three interactive “Positive Jewish Parenting” seminars at The Edmond J. Safra Synagogue in Manhattan on January 14, February 11 and March 17, all Wednesdays.

The synagogue is located at 11 E. 63 Street.

The workshops, a project of the OU Department of Community and Synagogue Services, are part of a wide-ranging OU series of programs with the objective of strengthening the Jewish family. Similar parenting workshops have been presented with great success nationally.

“Raising a child in this day and age is a great challenge,” declared Frank Buchewitz, OU Director of Special Projects and the coordinator of parenting programs. “Orthodox families are not immune to the stresses and challenges that affect parent/children relationships in general, while having their own additional challenges revolving around the Orthodox emphasis on education and morality, and the time pressures that are a factor in Orthodox life. The workshops, presented by experts in parent/child interaction, will be ‘how-to’ lessons on coping with these factors.”

The sessions will be:

  • Setting Limits for Our Children: What Do We Allow? What Do We Forbid?,
    led by Rona Novick, Ph.D., on Wednesday January 14;

  • Effective Parenting Strategies: Addressing Oppositional Behavior,
    led by Rochelle Harary, M.S., on Wednesday February 11; and

  • Sibling Rivalry,
    led by Carolyn H. Meyer, CSW, on Wednesday March 17.

Dr. Rona Novick is a Senior Psychologist in the Division of Adolescent Psychiatry at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, and is a member of the faculty of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She is also in private practice on Long Island.

Rochelle Harary is a licensed school psychologist with advanced training in cognitive and projective assessment. Mrs. Harary has a private practice in New York City and conducts extensive hands-on workshops throughout the Greater New York area.

Carolyn Meyer is a licensed and certified social worker in private practice and an instructor with Parenting Horizons. She has over 15 years of experience helping parents, children and families. Ms. Meyer has appeared as an expert on ABC News, has authored many articles and has conducted numerous seminars for local and national organizations.

Admission is $26 per person per session for advanced reservations and $30 at the door. For more information, please call Rabbi Dr. Elie Abadie at 212-754-9555.
