In High Holy
Days Message:
Frisch (New Jersey) Students
Encouraged by OU
Executive Director Rabbi Weinreb to Draw
Strength from Tragedies Afflicting
Israel
Orthodox Union Executive Vice
President Rabbi Tzvi Hersh Weinreb, speaking in the period between Rosh
Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Tuesday urged the student body at the Frisch
(High) School in Paramus, NJ to draw strength from the tragedies
afflicting the Jewish people in Israel and to use this strength in the
New Year to improve themselves, to take on worthwhile projects of
charity, to deepen their empathy for others, and to be guided by their
parents and teachers in this act of self-improvement.
Speaking solemnly but in an
encouraging manner, the Rabbi told the 600 assembled students - the
entire Frisch student body - that although it is perfectly acceptable to
cry bitterly for the victims, once the crying is over the Jewish people
must go on, not let the tragedies overwhelm them, and look for the good
in their lives. He said that among his favorite acts is to learn Torah
in the byways of Jerusalem – and related how his parents and
grandparents would have envied him for the opportunity to do so. Rabbi
Weinreb congratulated the students on the new Tzedakah (charity) project
for Frisch students announced at the meeting – to raise funds for the
Hatzolah - Yerushalayim (The Hatzolah Rescue Organization of Jerusalem)
ambulance corps, which plays such an important part in savings lives
after terrorist bombings.
Looking forward to 5764, Rabbi
Weinreb said, “May this be the year that Israel and her people can at
long last live in peace.”
