New Westchester/Riverdale District of OU’s National Conference of Synagogue Youth to Present Free Concert by Blue Fringe Band During Intermediate Days of Sukkot Festival

Wednesday, October 15, 7:30 p.m.

The Westchester/Riverdale District of the Orthodox Union’s National Conference of Synagogue Youth (NCSY) will present a free concert by the Blue Fringe Band during the Chol Hamoed (Intermediate) days of the Sukkot Festival, Wednesday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hebrew Institute of White Plains, 20 Greenridge Road. The concert will be preceded by a sukkah party (with plenty of food), and an opportunity to hang out with the band.

The Westchester/Riverdale District is NCSY’s newest, established this summer under the direction of Rabbi Shlomo Ressler to create programs specifically for all Jewish youth in that area.

The concert will be free to District members; there is a $15 membership fee. For non-members, tickets are $18.

“Our new District was established specifically to give the many teens in our area an opportunity to get to know one another better, and to share fun experiences such as the sukkah party and the concert,” Rabbi Ressler said. “With influences ranging from the Diaspora Yeshiva Band to John Mayer to Victor Wooten, the band has developed a modern rock/pop sound of its own. It is extremely popular and rocking along with it should be a great holiday experience.”

Rabbi Ressler explained that the blue fringes in the band’s name refer to the tzitzit at the four edges of the tallit or prayer shawl, and the color of the fringes in ancient times, when a special dye was available from a now-extinct sea creature.

For further information on the concert or on joining the District, contact Rabbi Ressler at 212-613-8339, or resslers@ou.org.

The Orthodox Union, now in its second century of service to the Jewish community of North America and beyond, is a world leader in community and synagogue services, adult education, youth work through NCSY, political action through the IPA, and advocacy for persons with disabilities through Yachad and Our Way. Its kosher supervision label, the , is the world’s most recognized kosher symbol and can be found on over 275,000 products manufactured in 68 countries around the globe.
