"How
Long the Burden of Hatred?"
Asks OU Publication For Yom Hashoah:
Holocaust Commemoration Day
April 8, 1998
"In our home German
was synonymous with Nazi. We did not buy German products, we had no German acquaintances.
Nor were we alone in our feelings. All our Jewish neighbors felt this way
." |
So begins "When Do We Stop
Hating," a newly released publication that asks how long must we burden of
hatred?
Exploring hatred from a religious perspective, the publication poses provocative questions
including: Is enduring hate ever justified? Is hatred intellectual or visceral, honest or
self-righteous? Should hate be perpetuated and transmitted from generation to generation?
Sponsored by the Orthodox Unions (OU) Department of Jewish Educations Pardes Project, the
pamphlet, which will be available in time for Holocaust
Remembrance Day, cites Biblical and Talmudic sources on issues such as revenge,
hatred, forgiveness and repentance. The pamphlets will serve as springboards for
discussions to be held by thousands of survivors, children of survivors and other Jews
around the world.
The Pardes Project, a monthly
educational program, enables Jews to explore millennia-old wisdom on contemporary issues
through informal and energetic home-based discussion groups.
For a free copy of the publication, call 1-800-4CHAVER or

Founded in 1995, the Pardes Project has more than 15,000
participants in over nine countries including Australia, Singapore, South Africa and
Germany and on more than 50 college campuses. Previous
Pardes topics include tolerance, ecology,
spirituality, alcoholism and gender.
