OU Honors Widow of Outreach Pioneer
Enid Boxer of Forest Hills was honored at the Orthodox Unions (OU) National
Conference of Synagogue Youth (NCSY) Ben Zakkai Honor Society Dinner in New York City.
Mrs. Boxer, whos late husband Harold was the visionary and leading force behind the
creation of NCSY, received the Harold H. Boxer Memorial Award in recognition of her
devotion to Jewish youth and NCSY.
"Enid, along with her late husband, Harold, has devoted her life to one of the
greatest challenges facing American Jewry: keeping our youth Jewish. In an era when Jewish
continuity is plaguing all Jews of conscience, Enids dedication to rescuing youth
from spiritual annihilation serves as a model and an inspiration," said Mandell
Ganchrow, M.D., President of the OU.
Born in Leipzig, Germany, Mrs. Boxer escaped the Holocaust by fleeing to England and
ultimately, New York. Her husband Harold was the impetus behind NCSY, the largest and most
successful Jewish youth movement in America today which impacts the lives of thousands of
teenagers each year.
Mrs. Boxer, a stock trader, is very active in Jewish communal life. She is a member of
the OUs Board of Governors, the founding presidnet of the Yavneh chapter of Mizrachi
Women in America and the founding president of the Malka chapter of AMIT Women .
NCSY is one of the most effective vehicles for Jewish outreach and education worldwide.
Found in 39 states, 3 Canadian provinces and 215 communities across the continent, NCSY
annually reaches 40,000 high school-aged boys and girls in North America, Israel and
Europe with 600 major educational and social events.
