JUST IN TIME FOR SUKKOT, OU’S OUR WAY PUBLISHES SIGNS OF SUKKOS FOR THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING
In preparation for Sukkot, Our Way has published “Signs of of Sukkos,” a booklet for the Jewish deaf and hard of hearing, to celebrate the upcoming autumn holiday. The booklet presents key visuals for Hebrew terms using American Sign Language for the blessing of dwelling in the Sukkah, along with the Hebrew text, and the English transliteration.
The booklet also contains the laws of Sukkah: “How to Build a Sukkah;” “The Mitzvah of Living in a Sukkah;” “When We Say the Blessing of ‘Layshayv BaSukkah’;” and “A Deeper Understanding of the Mitzvah of Sukkah.”
Our Way for the Jewish Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a division of the National Jewish Council for Disabilities (NJCD), an agency of the Orthodox Union, which provides social, educational, and recreational programs for Jewish youth and young adults who are deaf and hard of hearing.
Signs of Sukkos was made possibly through a grant from the Harry and Jane Fischel Foundation, and its Administrator, Rabbi Aaron Reichel. It is dedicated in the memory of Simeon H.F. Goldstein a”h, long time Executive Director of the Foundation.
