OU’S RABBI WEINREB, THREE CHAZZANIM, TO PROVIDE ‘AN EVENING OF CHIZUK (STRENGTH) AND INSPIRATION’ FOR THE HIGH HOLY DAYS, AT CONGREGATION AHAVATH TORAH OF ENGLEWOOD, SEPTEMBER 21
A world renowned Rav is joined by three unique cantors in an evening of explanation of the high holiday prayers entitled, “An Evening of Chizuk (Strength) and Inspiration,” to be held Wednesday, September 21 at 8:00 p.m. at OU member Congregation Ahavath Torah of Englewood, 240 Broad Avenue.
The program is co-sponsored by the synagogue; the Orthodox Union’s Department of Community Services | Jewish Community Programs; the Belz School of Jewish Music of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University; and the Cantorial Council of America.
According to Frank Buchweitz, OU National Director of Community Services and Special Projects, “The program is aimed at developing a greater appreciation and more personal meaning of the prayers as we enter the Yamim Nora’im – the High Holy Days.”
Rabbi Tzvi Hersh Weinreb, Executive Vice President, Emeritus of the Orthodox Union, will, as always, elevate the audience with his remarks. Chazzan Bernard Beer, Director of the Belz School of Jewish Music; Chazzan Sherwood Goffin, of the Belz School and the Lincoln Square Synagogue; and Chazzan Yanky Lemmer of the host congregation, will also be providing inspiration in their remarks on the High Holy Days liturgy.
"No one should enter Rosh Hashana 'cold.' Meaningful prayer requires spiritual preparation,” said Rabbi Weinreb. “This program is designed to help prepare the emotions and the intellect; emotions through sacred music, intellect through persuasive words. I pray that my message, urging introspection and devotion, will be enhanced by the messages of these outstanding cantors. Together, the four of us will strive to be 'shlichai tzibbur,' messengers of the community."
