VIVIAN LUCHINS NAMED CHAIRWOMAN OF THE SUMMER PROGRAMS COMMITTEE OF THE NATIONAL YOUTH COMMISSION OF NCSY; INVOLVEMENT WITH OU YOUTH PROGRAM DATES TO 1961
Orthodox Union President Simcha Katz today announced the reappointment of Mrs. Vivian Luchins (of the Bronx, NY) as Chairwoman of the Summer Programs Committee of the National Youth Commission of NCSY | Jewish Youth Leadership.
NCSY is the international youth movement of the Orthodox Union.
"As a public school NCSYer I was fortunate to participate in a teen summer program that went to Israel. It changed my life,” Mrs. Luchins declared. “I am delighted to work with Rabbi Steven Burg (International Director of NCSY), David Cutler (Director of Summer Programs) and the entire NCSY staff to help enable today's teens to have the same opportunity and to experience the wonders of being part of NCSY summer programs.”
Mrs. Luchins has been involved in NCSY since May of 1961 and met her husband, Dr. David Luchins when they were both high school NCSYers. She served a record four years on the NCSY National Board in high school; was one of the first public high school NCSYers to graduate from Stern College of Yeshiva University; and serves with distinction on the National Board of the OU. She is the Senior member of the OU Youth Commission and has been active in NCSY summer programs since 1973 when she served on the administration of Camp NCSY-West, the very first NCSY domestic summer program.
“Vivian Luchins’ dedication to NCSY in general and its summer programs in particular has stood the test of time,” Dr. Katz declared. “She is the perfect choice to serve as Chairwoman of the Summer Programs Committee.”
Yossi Stechler, Chairman of the National Youth Commission, added, "I am delighted that Mrs. Luchins has graciously accepted reappointment as Chairwoman of the Summer Programs Committee. Vivian and I have worked together for many years to expand the scope of these programs. Her passion for NCSY, her experience and her devotion to the teens will be very helpful to the Commission in the coming years."
Last month, Dr. and Mrs. Luchins were presented with the Sarah Rivkah and Dr. Bernard Lander Memorial Award at the Ben Zakkai Honor Society Reception in recognition of their half century of service to NCSY. The Ben Zakkai Honor Society, which the Luchins' helped found in 1965, is NCSY's alumni “Hall of Fame"
