The Orthodox Union’s Department of Day School and Educational Services is devoted to providing assistance and service to the lay leadership of yeshivas and day schools throughout the United States and Canada. While there is a plethora of organizations devoted to enhancing and servicing the paid professionals of Jewish education—that is, the administrative and teaching staff—there has been precious little devoted specifically to supporting the lay leadership of these Orthodox schools.
The department’s educational experts are often called in to work with school boards, defining roles, setting goals and advising on fundraising and community relations. As the tuition crisis becomes more and more intense, they have sought increasingly innovative ways for schools to save. The department is currently working with over 620 schools to provide resources and materials, custom-designed assistance on site, and centralized purchasing to reduce costs.
