Momentum is building towards a mass National Solidarity Rally to be held on September 20th 2006 at 12:00 noon across from the United Nations at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza at 47th Street and Second Avenue. We are hearing from Jews and non-Jews as far away as Kentucky, Georgia, Ohio-even Texas - - who want to participate. The rally was called as a demonstration of solidarity with Israel in support of the war on global terror and its state sponsors, and to demand the release of Israeli soldiers being held hostage.
Among the world leaders who will be participating at that time in the United Nations General Assembly opening session will be Iranian President Ahmadinejad. His hateful and threatening declarations against Israel, the Jewish people, the United States and the West are well known as is his support of Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations, as well as his aggressive nuclear weapons program. This will be an opportunity to send a message that all the world will hear. We will also call for the implementation of UN Resolutions 1701 and 1559, which call for the disarmament of Hezbollah and preventing their rearmament, and return of the Israelis being held hostage.
We urge every organization, synagogue and school to facilitate participation by organizing buses, a mass distribution of the attached flyer, announcements at Slichot services and all other gatherings, as well as press releases announcing your organization’s participation. Arrangements for bus parking can be made through the JCRC (212-983-4800). Some subsidies for schools will be available.
We are urging as many people as possible to bring a SHOFAR, which will be sounded in unison at the end of the rally to help bring down the walls of hatred and anti-Semitism as well as the barriers against Israel at the United Nations.
If you have not yet signed on as a co-sponsor, as some 67 organizations have to date, please do so promptly. There is no financial commitment just the obligation to notify your members and others.
